Head Applied Research Division And National Coordinator Of The Millennium Seed Bank Project
As head of the Applied Research Division, my main responsabilities include coordination and participation to the conception and implementation of research projects and programmes on natural resources conservation and sustainable use. These projects are foccused on the adaptation of local species to the different agroclimatic zones and to climat changes on one hand and on the improvement of the utilisation of local species in reforestation and agro-forestry programmes on other hand. We are dealing also with issues such as degraded lands restoration, combat against desertification, genetic improvement of local forest species and increase of availability of forages for animal nutrition. As coordinator of the Millennium Seed Bank Project in Burkina Faso, my duties consist to:-prepare the annual working plan and budget of the project at CNSF,-supervise the implementation of the adopted annual plan at both technical and financial levels,-elaborate milestones, intermediary and annual reports of the project,-manage administratively the 7 staff members of the project at CNSF.The project is funded by the Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew in the UK and has partners all over the world who contribute to its implementation. The over all aim of the project is to safeguard seeds and herbarium specimens of at least 10% of world land and marine species.

At this position, I was particularly in charge of the aspect "Conservation of tree seeds in ruralcommunities". Within this study, we have done an inventory of traditional methods andtechniques for grains storage in about 20 provinces in Burkina Faso. In total 19 local seedsproducers committees have been set up and their capacities built in seeds harvesting andconservation good practices. Finally, the different traditionally methods and the associatedknowledge and knowhow have been used to set up seeds conservation trials in rural areas in aparticipatory manner with rural communities.
