My name is Amethyst O’Connell, I recently graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and a Sustainability Studies minor. I am an Electrical Designer at Michaud Cooley Erickson, and I have been putting my unique experience in climate change, sustainability, and efficiency to work there.I have holistic expertise in Renewable Energy beyond just Electrical Engineering, having been the Teaching Assistant for GCC 3027, Power Systems Journey, a class that explores the human side of power system design using GIS software, mapping, and geographic exploration. I also have experience in solar, and in community outreach through my work with the Southwest Regional Sustainable Development Partnership with a feasibility study on implementing solar on a food truck with community significance. I was the primary author on a resolution which passed through Undergraduate Student Government, FF7, concerning the urgent need for the University of Minnesota to place solar on their roofs and take a leadership role in the climate crisis.I also have technical experience in Electric Vehicles, from my experience in rail grinder design from my internship at Loram Maintenance of Way, designing an electric lettuce harvesting machine during my Danfoss externship, and my experience on the UMN Solar Vehicle Project. My technical skills are backed by strong writing and business understanding, especially through my Patent Law internship at Patterson Thuente. My experience in Electric Vehicles is forward-facing, backed by my experience implementing computer vision systems in manufacturing processes during my Automation Engineering Internship at Carlisle Technologies. I also have an understanding of PCBs and the Printed Circuit Board manufacturing processes, from being the founder of the University of Minnesota SMTA chapter. This Electric Vehicle oriented technical experience can be easily applied to more practical engineering systems and technologies in sustainability, such as in electrification, hardware design, and manufacturing.Please consider me for your sustainability or climate change public speaking engagements in Electrical Engineering and beyond.
