An unconventional sales-person, I started life as an Environmental Engineer and an Entomologist studying the behaviour of ants, fascinated by their motivation and specialisation in support of the Superorganism! Salespeople were pushy, unimaginative, soulless individuals. They talked too much and were entirely self-interested. It took a while to see the irony in my own thinking, that it was my limited view of the business world that led to these opinions, I knew there were Engineering Professionals, highly qualified…..many letters after their names 😉, but I started to experience Sales Professional’s at work and then it clicked. Sales Professional’s were some of the most accountable people I knew. At the top end they were diligent, empathetic and had sharp business minds. I loved it, so after an early start in technical roles I started to apply my interests in Environmental and Behavioural sciences to increasingly commercial roles. Being behind the experience curve meant I needed some time in different roles for both small and large organisations before I could find my niche. In almost all situations I was leaning towards challenging projects developing new value propositions and new markets. Developing business models and pricing models. Finding solutions for clients where a Vanilla approach just wasn’t getting their message across in the Boardroom. I now work in the sustainability space helping businesses and their customers: • Where the business is small and ambitious, has an MVP and not a lot of cash (….no cash, oh dear)• They probably need to raise some money• They are still trying to find their ideal customers. They would like more customers please 😊• The customers they have want to know what the future will look like Right now I’m working with CompareYourFootprint, a ClimateTech company on a mission to help ALL businesses understand their carbon footprint better.
