  Provide all aspects of public service for users of primary source materials. Assist researchers with the appropriate use of materials and provide reference service. Maintain environmental controls. Coordinate design and installation for the department’s exhibitions; consult with curators to mount 4-6 major exhibits annually with the goal of achieving maximum visual impact, educational utility, and archival safety of materials being exhibited. Prepare rare and unique items for exhibition loan to museums, libraries, and other research institutions. Work with director, curators , and Library Development to cultivate potential donors through special presentations of holdings. Assess the specific conservation, preservation and storage requirements for individual books, manuscripts, photographs, graphic art, objects, and textiles in the collection. Perform specialized repairs and restoration of paper-based materials using the resources of the UCLA Library Conservation Lab in accordance with institutional and established archival practice. Design and construct custom archival housing for unique and large-format collection materials when commercial products are deemed inadequate, or where none exist on the market. Also create custom storage pieces as needed. Organize, maintain and provide access to Departments archive of digital collection images. Oversee post-cataloging technical processing tasks, including marking of newly cataloged books, processing bindery orders to fine binder. Train, consult and advise staff and students on archival collections and rare books maintenance.
