Odel studied architecture - BA (Hons), DipArch RIBA II - at London Metropolitan University, graduating in 2010.Studying within the research field ‘Architecture of Rapid Change and Scarce Resources’ under Professor Maurice Mitchell, Odel’s final design thesis looked the social effects of the declining industry of the quarry areas of Navi Mumbai, India. Whilst in Mumbai he was a part of a student group that constructed a community classroom for the children of the migrant quarry workers, in collaboration with a local NGO. This project was nominated for the RIBA Silver Medal 2010 in addition to being featured in Building Design's 'Class of 2010' and the Architecture Review's 'Top Ten London Architecture Units'.Odel has worked on various commercial and residential architecture projects, as well as gallery and museum renovations. His extensive practice experience has included Burwell Deakins Architects, Robert Barnes Architects and DSP Architecture. Alongside spatial design and architecture, Odel has an enthusiastic attitude towards a ‘hands on approach’ to design and making. As a Workshop Technician within the London Metropolitan University Architecture department, Odel assisted students with the realisation of projects from scale models and conceptual installations to 1:1 prototypes. It was here that he became deeply immersed in the skill and craft behind making, and subsequently started up on his own, working on private commissions.Odel is currently working as a designer and maker on a number of bespoke furniture projects, artist installations, shop fit-outs and design competitions. He is currently based at, and operating out of Blackhorse Workshop in Walthamstow. With a keen interest in community based ventures and creative collaboration, Odel is always interested to hear about new and interesting projects.
