African Representative

Odinakaonye (Odi) Lagi, joined the Network of University Legal Aid Institutions (NULAI) in 2004 as the Project Coordinator after the organization was established and launched its clinical legal education programme for Nigeria. She became the Program Officer in 2008 and its Senior Program Officer in 2011 after having successfully grown the footprint of NULAI a network of clinical programmes in Nigeria from nothing to cover about one-third of the law faculties in Nigeria, secured institutional approval for the programme and managed to persuade the Nigeria’s Parliament through the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria to integrate University-based legal aid clinics into the community of statutorily recognised legal aid services in Nigeria. In 2012, Odi Lagi led NULAI Nigeria on an impact assessment after working with the Board to develop and articulate the organization Theory of Change and dimensions of Change. Odi Lagi is skilled at building non-profit/development organizations and has developed and implemented strategic programs as well as helping other regions in Africa to develop similar networks for clinical programmes. She provides support in developing impact assessment framework and theory of change; developing training manuals & facilitating human right education training; develops organizational programming and strategic plan; coordinates project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. She was elected a Board member and African representative to the Steering Committee of Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE) in 2015 and was subsequently elected as its Secretary and member of the Executive Committee in 2016. Odi Lagi is an Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI) Human Rights Fellow and a trained human rights educator from Equitas (International Centre for Human Rights Education, Canada). She has Masters in Human Rights from the Central European University and also holds a Diploma in Social Innovation from UN University of Peace.
