The caretaker is charged with managing all four of these camps by visiting each of them daily, collecting fees from campers, providing regular maintenance, responding to emergencies (search and rescue) on the mountain and aiding in the wellbeing of travelers in the mountains. I lived at Gray Knob Cabin, approximately 3 miles and 3,000 vertical feet from Route 2 near Randolph, NH. Trips back down to the valley to re-supply would occur about every ten days.
