About Oğuzhan Beğik
In the last 10 years, I have conducted research in the fields of RNA post-transcriptional regulation, epitranscriptomics and RNA sequencing. During this period, I have published 15 peer-reviewed publications, which 8 publications as first author and 1 publication as co-corresponding author. I am currently a senior postdoctoral researcher and entrepreneur with expertise in RNA dynamics and epitranscriptomics, specializing in the application of third-generation sequencing technologies. My research has led to significant advancements, notably the development of Nano3P-seq, a groundbreaking method for transcriptome-wide analysis (Begik et al., Nature Methods 2023). I significantly contributed to establishing our lab as internationally-recognized leaders in the use and development of direct RNA nanopore sequencing technologies to study RNA modifications. I have led the efforts in the lab to pioneer the development of novel algorithms to map and quantify RNA modifications (Liu and Begik et al., Nat Comm 2019, Begik et al., Nat Biotech 2021). These works has been extensively cited and applied in both academic and biotech sectors. I have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the RNA Society Eclipse Award (2022), the Garvan Institute PhD Thesis Award, and the UNSW School of Clinical Medicine HDR Thesis Award, highlighting the excellence of my PhD research. My entrepreneurial efforts have been supported by major grants such as the ERC Proof of Concept Grant (2024) and the CRG Commercialization Gap Fund (2024). I continue to push the boundaries of RNA research, focusing on translating scientific innovation into real-world biotechnological applications.
