Assigned as a Contractor to CareTech Solutions as an MVS Systems Programmer

• Responsible for maintaining z/OS, JES2 and related Operating Systems software, migrating the operating system through multiple versions of OS/390 and z/OS, coordinating updates to other IBM and OEM products to make them compatible with the updated operating system. Applied "PUT Tape" and PSP maintenance on a regular basis. Researched / resolved software problems encountered on a day-to-day basis. IODF Gens and system parameter changes to accommodate new hardware and other software products. • Installed, Tested, and Implemented new versions / maintenance levels of a variety of OEM software products.• Defined a "Linux under z/VM" LPAR utilizing an IFL processor to execute Linux applications on System z, installing IBM's z/VM operating system into the new LPAR, defining four Linux Guests to become the hosts for the Proof-Of-Concept Linux applications. • Participated in a multi-departmental team which developed and documented a repeatable, customizable, scripted, Red Hat "kickstart" process to easily clone new Linux guests. • Team Leader of the Operating System Software Team, responsible for maintaining both mainframe and Unix operating systems ( z/OS, HP-UX, AIX), as well as some OEM products. • Provided Technical Assistance and Mentoring to team mates, computer operators, application programmers, and other I.T. staff and management as needed. • Disaster Recovery Coordinator for the Large Scale Software Engineering Team, participating in planning meetings, restoring the z/OS Operating system at DRP tests, documenting issues experienced during the test, post-test follow-up to eliminate problems encountered from future tests, and maintaining the recovery procedure documentation. • Implemented system software exits for z/OS, JES2, PSF/MVS, ACF2, and SDSF.• Implemented and monitored a symbolic-based, mainframe software installation and upgrade methodology. • Provided temporary technical support for both CICS and HP-Unix.

• Responsible for supporting all systems software in the RS/6000 AIX network, installing and upgrading the AIX software, selecting and installing all appropriate support software, administering the security of all users, and on-going monitoring of system performance.• Implemented the Tape Management, File Backup, and Workload Management components of the CA-Unicenter suite of products, to achieve a "lights-out" processing environment. • Designated as the Primary Technical expert supporting the effort to offload the company's legacy application systems to alternative client server platforms, mainly IBM's RS/6000 using Oracle, and OS/2 using Microsoft SQL Server.

• Supervised a project team of employees and contract System Programmers to install, test, and implement MVS/ESA built from CBIPO, including a new version of JES2. This project also included updating all related IBM and OEM software products to the appropriate version / maintenance level necessary for supporting the updated operating system.• Planned, Ordered, Installed, Customized, and implemented MVS/XA from CBIPO, applying available "PUT Tape" maintenance to bring the newly installed system to a current level. • Built, documented, maintained, and successfully executed on a semi-annual basis a one-volume "RESCUE" system to restore our MVS, JES2, DFP, VTAM, CICS, and DB2 systems to an available pool of DASD devices at several Comdisco Disaster Recovery "Hot Sites", and brought those systems up, as we would in the event of a real disaster.

• Installed, maintained, and upgraded the CICS system software in several Production, Model Company, and Test CICS regions. Maintained the CICS table definitions for all regions, and provided assistance to application programmers, as needed.• Responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and upgrading multiple CICS-based OEM products in the Model Company and Test CICS regions. This responsibility also included providing training / assistance to the application programming staff on their use.

• Installed, maintained, upgraded, and debugged the CICS software product, researching, applying and implementing maintenance as necessary. Created and maintained the CICS table definitions for the Test CICS regions and migrated those definitions into production.• Responsible for programming an in-house, CICS-based Warehouse Inventory Control System, tracking inventory from its receipt on the dock, through warehouse storage, up to and including transfer to Data Processing for use.• Maintained a system of approximately 25 Assembler programs which merged data from multiple sources to maintain the X-1 master list used as the basis for most bulk mailings.

• Coded, Compiled, Tested, De-Bugged, and Implemented several application programs to select potential names and addresses for bulk mailing, based on the customer's selection criteria, using COBOL, Assembler and multiple utility programs to put those names in the format required for the mailing.

• Computer Operator on an IBM 370/155, responsible for setting up and executing several batch jobs according to the schedule provided, and recording the results.• Offline Printer Operator "spooling" tapes generated on the mainframe to the special forms required, to be processed by the Production mail area.
