About Orlando Jaime Rivero, Mbs

My name is Orlando J. Rivero and I am a Biomedical Scientist and the Program Manager for Primary Care Services at Chicago Public Schools' (CPS), the fourth largest school system in the nation! In this role, I assist the District in providing healthcare access to students with the goal of reducing school sick days, especially from vaccine preventable ailments. This involves partnerships with the Illinois and Chicago Departments of Public Health (IDPH and CDPH, respectively). Additionally, I assist in leading CPS' efforts in vaccinating the school district against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) with numerous weekly events throughout the City of Chicago; 23k+ patient encounters and counting. With a decade of combined experience in healthcare administration and research, I have worked in unique environments with a focus on improving the care of individual patients and entire populations. This has ranged from hospital systems in medically underserved areas to national medical associations where I have represented entire medical specialties as an advocate for these members and their patients. Additionally, my work and education at Midwestern University has helped further the field of microbiology by expanding the understanding of polymicrobial interactions and set the foundation for a new branch of biological studies, anoxic cell biology.Combining my unique experiences, I have lead teams and streamlined quality checks on individual medical records and analyses of payer policies, both private and public (CMS), with an evidence-based approach. I have also used my skills to foster relationships with state chapters of medical societies to better leverage influence from the national society headquarters to assist the chapters’ efforts in more localized practice and patient care concerns.
