I am a speaker, advocate, and physician leader dedicated to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion and inspired by the belief that disability does not mean inability. After my own path was altered due to a spinal cord injury, I discovered that student-athletes with disabilities aren’t given the same opportunities as those without.I am now dedicated to providing that opportunity for student-athletes around the country with disabilities, by creating and leading the Adaptive Sports & Fitness Program at the University of Michigan, with an eventual goal of having the NCAA recognize adaptive sports programs as official NCAA entities. My passions can be summarized by the following statements: - I have the desire to improve the access to and delivery of healthcare and medical education around the world, using innovation and technology, while simultaneously promoting diversity, health equity, and inclusion in this space. - “Disabusing Disability” - I am dedicated to demonstrating that being "disabled" does not mean that one is "UNable" by providing examples, opportunities, and resources for individuals with disabilities to lead healthy, active, and fulfilling lives. - I want to provide equitable access to ALL students, not just student-athletes, with disability related barriers, by providing the appropriate accommodations required to achieve that access. - I want to create equal access to physical and emotional health and wellness for individuals with physical disabilities, using adaptive sports and fitness and inclusive recreation. - I aim to create a completely inclusive and accessible health system for ALL - including both patients and providers with disabilities, while addressing the healthcare disparities that exist in minority populations. Always willing to connect with like-minded individuals and expand my professional network.
