My role as the only in-house counsel of an international 600-employee company consists in a multitude of legal tasks, such as -Supporting business functions in legal matters, through contractual negotiations and legal review of different types of contracts, as well as involvement in decision-making concerning daily functioning of the company;-Employment law related topics;-Data protection matters;-Legal research and fact-finding with regards to the above;-Finnish-English translations;-Cooperation with other companies belonging to the ALTEN Group in legal matters;-Authority and labour union communications in legal matters (for example labour and corporate law), such as Trade Register reports, employment related questions, and data protection matters

o Document review engagements concerning a large merger in the EU, and a case regarding a data subject access request (DSAR).o The merger project was an EU Commission investigation as to the anti-competitive market effects of said merger. o My task was to review a broad array of English and Finnish documents and to look for signs of anti-competitive behaviour and other circumstances relevant to the appraisal of the merger. o In addition, I was responsible for determining which documents are privileged and thus outside the scope of the Commission’s investigation.o This job entailed, amongst other things, the ability to well-founded independent decision-making, often based on highly ambiguous material.

o A document review project concerning a high-profile international corporate dispute.o The assignment predominantly consisted of reviewing Finnish and English documents, but I also reviewed Swedish and German documents occasionally.o The job included, inter alia, assessment of the relevance, confidentiality and privilege status of the material.o As the work progressed, I was chosen to the quality control team. o The ability to comprehend highly technical and industry-specific text was necessary, and my hobbies in mechanics helped my team and myself to add value to our work.o Plenty of Finnish-English translations.
