He is the co-founder and CEO of Ocean Rainforest, which is one of the largest seaweed cultivation companies in Europe and also has an operation in California, USA. He has co-ordinated and had leading positions in a number of European, American and Nordic research and development projects within agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture. Currently he is the Project coordinator of the Horizon Europe project SeaMark. Olavur is frequently invited as a speaker at international conferences on seaweed cultivation and growth in the blue bioeconomy.
