As the final and individual project of the master's degree, I worked with a group studying type 2 diabetes. Specifically, I have focused on the translocation of GLUT4 to the cell membrane in response to insulin in HeLa cells; and the role of the N-Glycan of GLUT4 in this mechanism. Some of the experiments performed include flow cytometry, different cell culture assays, colony PCR and western blot, among others. For the assessment, I gave a presentation followed by questions from a panel, and sibmitted a paper-like report. Grade: First

As part of the master’s degree, we completed a group project titled “A genetic screen for modifiers of a Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD)-related eye phenotype in Drosophila”. Teamwork was necessary, and I greatly improved upon a variety of skills, including communication and time management. The results were submitted in a paper-like report, alongside a poster. Technical skills acquired: working with the live model organism Drosophila, PCR.

Title: “Analysis of the expression of microRNAs in PMM2-CDG and identification of affected cellular pathways”. It consisted of designing a project based on a hypothesis and performing experiments to draw a conclusion. All the laboratory and computational work were combined, presented in a paper-like report, and defended in front of a panel. I obtained a mark of 9.9/10 with an honorary mention ("Matrícula de Honor").
