Currently working as a graduate student research in a skeletal tissue engineering laboratory investigating and optimizing methods of muscle repair and regeneration through the use of novel musculoskeletal tissue fabrication processes.My responsibilities include:- Evaluating and publishing on novel cell tracking methodologies in rat models to provide accessible method of investigated tissue engineered implants in vivo.-Designing and performing long-term rat, sheep, and human cell experiments involved muscle stem cell harvest, microfluidic cell sorting, and extended culture and differentiation procedures.-Mentoring and training graduate, undergraduate, and high school students in research methodologies, standard protocols, and data analysis.

Through my junior and senio year of undergraduate, I took part in the STARS II Program, where I had the opportunity to work in a tissue engineering laboratory that focuses on decellularization and cell seeding techniques for the regeneration of trachea, lungs, and vessels. Over the summer 2015, I took part in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Exceptional Research Opportunities Program, where I was paired to work with Dr. Robert Sah at the Cartilage Tissue Engineering Laboratory. A main goal of the laboratory is to use tissue and joint engineering to improvement the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cartilage-related injuries and diseases.In an independent project, I characterized the effects of novel cell seeding methods in collagen hydrogels to study potential cartilaginous tissue substitutes. Results suggest a faster and simpler method of promoting cell proliferation and tissue growth in current articular cartilage defect treatment therapies.Accomplishments include a published abstract and poster presentation titled "Primary Chondrocytes and Particulated Cartilage Contract Collagen Gel in Vitro" at the 2015 Biomedical Engineering Society Conference in Tampa, Florida. I also provided a published abstract and presentation titled "Characterization of Cell Viability and Hydrogel Contraction in Cartilage Explant Seeded Type 1 Telo Collagen Gels" at the 2015 University of California- San Diego’s Summer Research Conference.My responsibilities included:- Designing experimental plans and standards of protocol, and preparing weekly lab presentations and study reports. -Performing chondrocyte harvesting and isolation experiments from bovine calf tissue.-Optimizing particulated cartilage harvest and hydrogel development procedures.-Live-dead assays with fluorescence microscopy

I worked on an independent project where I optimized heart cell analysis tools to improve data collection. More specifically, I designed and improved hardware and software components of an aspiration machine used for the selective collection of heart cells during cell heterogeneity studies. My accomplishments include a published abstract and research presentation titled "Micropipette Optimization for the Study of Cardiomyocyte Heterogeneity" at the Yale STARS Summer Research Symposium. My responsibilities included:-Creating, following, and conducting data analysis from optimization protocols to improve the collection and storage methods of the device.- Designing simple, reproducible manufacturing methods for disposable device components, such as micropipettes.-Analyzing and manipulating Matlab code to enhance data collection methods

During my sophomore year, I did research in the Fahmy Laboratory, which focuses on investigating different biomaterials for drug delivery purposes. I was part of a project optimizing nanogel drug-loaded composites to improve methods of targeted medical treatment within the body. This research focused on designing, enacting and analyzing experiments where the nanolipogel ingredient to drug ratio was systematically manipulated with the goal of findthe ingredient ratios that lead to the highest drug uptake and release, understanding the interaction between different liposome components, and finding an effective model for this correlation. My responsibilities included:-Designing protocols and experiments to test the effect of variations in nanogel composition- Developing and loading nanogels, including lyophilization work.- Monitoring and analyzing nanolipogel drug loading and release profiles.
