Not only are his skills displayed through his incredibly high academic attainment and numerous experiences outside of University, but also in his contribution back to the community here. Over the course of our first year, he has consistently been one of the first to offer his support and advice to our peers - a testament to his collaborative abilities. From volunteering his time as a Computer Science mentor to working at the IT Smart Bar, along with attending all sorts of workshops and events the University has to offer, Oli truly makes the most of University life and the opportunities it provides (see you at band practice ;) ). Oli and I have also attended several hackathons together, along with various other competitive coding events. Never having participated in competitive coding before, it has been a pleasure to learn more about coding under pressure alongside him - his company has made them all very fond memories too!! As part of my employment as an IT Service Desk Smart Bar Assistant, I got the opportunity to also work in the laptop loan and repair office as a receptionist. This involved making sure that clients had an appointment before I served them, and then using either a microsoft access based system to record a laptop going out or being returned, or a web based system to record a repair drop off or pick up
It Service Desk Smart Bar Assistant
In this role we had to troubleshoot various problems as a team which were brought to us by staff and students alike. These included wifi issues, account activation and registration problems, general network issues, and issues that required password or MFA resets.If we could fix the issue at the smart bar we did, but some issues (i.e the ones that required password resets) had to be escalated to the Digital and Technology Service to be resolved.

In this role, I troubleshot one of the company Wordpress websites to figure out why it frequently needs restarting. I also optimised another company Wordpress website for the page rank algorithm used by search engines, which involved using tools like Seobility and Ahrefs to find needed improvements to the website. I have also made changes to the company intranet to make it more maintainable and resilient to change regarding policies within the company by moving from a JavaScript based system to a pure HTML based system. This allowed my non-technical colleagues to understand how to edit it - something which the previous system didn’t take into account.

I assisted team members in the use of Microsoft Word, and recovered lost source code that had been developed on company property using Jetbrains DotPeek.
