About Oli Barrett

Founder and presenter who enjoys connecting people and ideas. I have three strings to my bow;1) Starting and building things. The latest example is Ethos (enabling people around the world to back renewable energy projects); https://poweredbyethos.com/ My main company is The Connector Unit, spotting and making valuable connections between people and organisations. Other things I have co-founded include; Turn on the Subtitles (global children's literacy campaign), The 10x Challenge (Britain's largest schools entrepreneurship challenge), Volunteer It Yourself (award-winning social enterprise in which young people fix their own youth clubs, gaining skills and qualifications), and Clean and Cool (series of trade missions for climate scaleup to access international opportunities. 2) Presenting, and hosting (on stage and on camera). I enjoy meeting and interviewing people, and turning live experiences into valuable, memorable occasions. You can find me chairing and hosting events around the world, from MCing to leading panel conversations or fireside chats. My speaking work focuses on helping teams and organisations to build better, more valuable networks. I hosted the Great British Entrepreneur Awards for 10 years and I am an official presenter for London Tech Week. In the past couple of years, I have hosted a wide range of events from a gathering of Nobel Prize Winners to a summit on eye health, and from the future of aviation, to a global AI event. Other recent events I have played a moderating role at include the Grow London Summit (London), FII (Riyadh) and the Next Grid Alliance (Boston). 3) Being a useful shareholder. I'm a shareholder in a range of companies including Troubadour Theatres (theatres and film studios), Calm (meditation and mindfulness), Sible (the collapsible cup), Westward Property Search, Floww (connecting scaling companies and investors), Mobilise (supporting carers), and Better Space (employee wellbeing platform).I support various charities, including One Million Mentors, The Centre for Entrepreneurs, Founders4Schools, and Young Enterprise and my course, Build a Better Network, is available as a scholarship to those who find themselves out of work.

Listed skills include Entrepreneurship, Start Ups, New Business Development, Business Strategy, and 26 others.

Co-Founder

Turn On The Subtitles (TOTS) isn’t an organisation. It’s not a company either. We’re simply a group of people who think this is an idea whose time has come.Extensive research across multiple countries has shown us a way to improve children’s literacy. It’s incredibly simple; just turn on the subtitles. So now, along with our friends at a number of leading charities and universities, we’re on a mission to encourage broadcasters, policymakers and parents to Turn on the Subtitles.Ultimately we’d like to see broadcasters turn on the subtitles for most children’s television, by default. We’d like some of the world’s largest technology platforms to do the same. If you’d like to find out more about our campaign, we’d like to hear from you. Just email us on hello@turnonthesubtitles.org
