Responsible for managing the Society's approach to understanding Climate Change including embedding it within our approach to Risk Management and Governance structures.Successfully delivered the Climate Biennial Exploratory (CBES) stress test, and further developed internal capability to execute internal stress testing to support consideration of climate change within Capital, Provisioning and Financial planning processes. Supported the assessment of Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emission baselines, and targets as part of wider enhancements to the Society’s TCFD disclosures.Represented Nationwide on industry working groups (PCAF, CFRF, GARP, U.K. Finance).

As part of the Enterprise Risk Strategy team I played a key role in setting the direction for the Society's enhancement and simplification of its Risk Management Framework. In addition I was also actively engaged with the IRM's Enterprise Risk SIG and the Operational Risk Practitioners group.Key achievements included:Developing the vision for Risk Management at Nationwide.Rationalising the Risk Governance structure.Developing and implementing the Society's approach to Policy, fully integrating it as a tool within the wider control environment.Supporting the implementation of a new Operational Risk management tool - Metric stream.Supported the development and roll out of a revised Enterprise Risk Taxonomy.Hosted a number of joint events between Nationwide and the IRM on topical risk issues such as resilience and crisis management.

Responsible for the development of the Operational Risk Management Framework for all EMEA entities.Key achievements included:Development of a new Operational Risk taxonomy that was rolled out globally across the organisation.Development and implementation of the Risk Appetite framework (all risk types) across twelve legal entities in the EMEA region.Enhanced the Operational Risk Scenario Analysis process for the EMEA region.Aligned existing Operational Risk data (RCSA / KRI) from line of business to legal entity.Development of the approach to incorporate identification and assessment of Emerging Risks into the EMEA Risk Framework.Led the work to self assess compliance in the EMEA region against the ‘Review of the Principles for the Sound Management of Operational Risk’ (BCBS 292)Led the EMEA self-assessment of compliance against ‘Principles for effective risk data aggregation & risk reporting’ (BCBS 239)Represented BNY Mellon on the Operational Risk eXchange (ORX) Definitions working group.

Responsible for developing and producing EMEA Risk Reports and managing production of the ICAAP of the Irish Banking Entity.Key Achievements Included:Developing a new Risk Management Information pack for the Executive Risk Committee.Developed and rolled out a set of guidelines with which to assess ‘top risks’ to ensure consistent rating and escalation across the region.Responsible for presenting the regional risk report to the Executive Risk Committee chaired by the CRO.Successful delivery of the Irish banking entity ICAAPOwnership of the quarterly Operational Risk scenario analysis process for the Irish banking entity.Managed the delivery of all EMEA legal entity Pillar 3 disclosures.

Creation of a Risk Reporting Team in the Dublin office focused on meeting the MI needs of Senior Lending Directors, Department of Finance and Financial Regulator.Key Achievements Included:Development of a suite of MI reports.Automation of MI reporting through COGNOS softwarePost Nationalisation developed sectoral and impairment risk reporting for the Department of Finance's requirements.

Responsible for the testing and rollout of the new Credit Grading System that calculates Loss Given Default (LGD) and Probability of Default (PD) and enabled the rating of new business. Key Achievements Included:Developed and rolled out training for Lending staff (c250 staff) across, UK, USA and Ireland to enable them to use the new system effectively as well as attaining buy in from Senior Management to enable embedding of system in the lending process.Led the development of a suite of MI reports to provide greater information on the loan book for Senior Management. Took responsibility of a project team working on backfilling historical credit data.

Responsible for all monthly and quarterly sectoral and asset quality reporting, including self identifying and delivering automation opportunities to improve the speed and accuracy of the process.
