Since returning to Ireland, I have worked with several of the largest global freight operators in Ireland in business development consultancy roles. Among those are companies such as Norbert Dentressangle, Maersk (Damco Logistics), C.H. Robinson and PRL.Currently self employed as a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor offering a cost effective alternative DGSA service to my customers involved in the handling, packing and transport of Dangerous Goods.

May 2012 - Present

Garden Leave

Ireland

Following the successful completion of sale of my company, Airport Services Limited on 18th October 2010, I was contractually obliged to take garden leave from the Freight Industry (UK restricted) for a period of 4 years. Since January 2011, I undertook to gain DGSA qualifications whilst researching various business opportunities and working as a freelance DGSA and DGA for various customers in UK and Ireland. In May 2012 I returned to Ireland with my family.

Oct 2010 - May 2012

Director & Partner

Airport Services Limited

Heathrow

Prior to selling my stock in the company in October 2010, my main remit within ASL was to introduce and develop a Business Travel Services to compliment their existing freight business. I managed this by tendering for and winning sizable travel accounts both from the public and private sector. Year on year, under my stewardship and that of my trusted fellow directors, we continued to grow ASL to become a formidable international company. Over the years I continued to develop new arms to the company portfolio including an international courier division, a conference and incentive management company, a human remains repatriation service and a Dangerous Goods Advisory Service (air, road and sea).

Jan 1996 - Oct 2010

Director Of Sales And Marketing

Ealing Travel / Et2

London, United Kingdom

My primary role within ET was to target the entertainment industry (music, film and sport) for the corporate travel accounts and to build a brand image - making ET synonymous with travel for the entertainment industries. For three and a half years I continually edged a way in to the point where we were the first choice stop for most music promoters and the sole agent for both Ealing and Pinewood studios.

May 1992 - Jan 1996

Owner

Zip Travel

London, United Kingdom

I created this small travel agency, sharing an IATA licence, using several thousand pounds of savings and redundancy payment. I concentrated on pitching to small business travel accounts to gradually build up a steady customer base with healthy margins. I managed to obtain a few well known accounts such as VSO ( Voluntary Services Overseas ), The British Retail Consortium, Ambrit Oil, Crescent Petrolium, Lanyon Limited and The Office of Manpower Economics. The First Gulf War resulted in a sharp decline of business travel and consequently forced a change in strategy. I joined Ealing Travel and took my clients' business with me in the knowledge that their operations were extremely professional. Here my career direction became more focused on development rather than just servicing.

Mar 1990 - May 1992

Business Travel Manager

Holborn, London

At LEP I reported directly to the Finance Director and to the CEO. My role was to manage the teams handling our Blue Chip accounts. Until Britannic Travel bought out the travel division from LEP International, I worked daily with firms such as Grand Metropolitan, Fisons, United Foods Group, Deloittes to name a few, ensuring that we met their expectations.

Jul 1988 - Mar 1990

Travel Clerk

Company Travel Services Limited

London And Dubai

Most definitely a major junction in my life. Here, under the guidance of some of the greatest professionals I have ever met, I learned skills that would stay with me for life.Under the guidance of a great Managing Director, I was taught the travel trade the "old way" - planning routes with the Air ABC, phoning airlines and constructing fares manually. Despite having what was, at the time, top of the range CRS systems ( Travicom and President), my MD was correct in his assumption that any fool could let a machine think for them! My first taste of responsibility came in the form of assisting the MD to co-ordinate the training delegates from all over the commonwealth so that they could converge simultaneously at their destination. Eventually I was to be given sole charge of this account! I spotted a commercial opportunity with this account and was encouraged to "run with it". I did so and set up a meet, greet and assist service in Heathrow and Gatwick to assist our delegates transiting.Over a period of 12 months, I set up and ran a satellite office for Company Travel Services in Dubai to facilitate a multi million pound travel contract that we won from UMALCO.
