• Works with PI to design, perform, and evaluate research procedures; confers with PI to assist in developing plans for research projects and discuss the interpretation of results; collaborates in the preparation of contracts and proposals to sponsoring agencies; assists in the preparation of amendments to protocols and/or modifications to study design as appropriate• Serves as a resource to the clinical research staff, ensuring appropriate procedures, and explains policies and procedures; ensures that research projects are completed according to IRB and federal guidelines. Researches and recommends new methods and procedures to maintain standards and improve quality• Provides patient clinical and laboratory data to allow initial, and updates to, validations and verifications of Neuromuscular Laboratory testing • Provides input for clinical research and laboratory test validation designs and protocols• Assists in education and training of staff involved in studies and continuing education programs for research and clinical laboratory staff. • Review and comprehend the clinical research study protocols• Prepare study materials requested by the PI, informed consent document, case report forms (CRFs) enrollment log, and drug/device accountability • Establish and organize study files, regulatory binders, study specific source documentation, patient files, and other materials related to research studies• Coordinate participants tests and procedures • Register participants into appropriate coordinating centers, billing matrix to ensure billing study procedures to the appreciate funding source • Collect data as required by the protocol• Collect documents needed to initiate the study and submit to the sponsor• Conduct and participate in the informed consent process, discussing with research participants and answering questions related to the study Place medication orders into EMR system EPIC • Work with PI to develop and implement recruitment strategies in accordance with HRPO (IRB) requirements and approvals• Screen subjects for eligibility using protocol specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, documenting each potential participant eligibility or exclusion • Assures timely completion of Case Report Forms • Maintain study timelines • Maintain adequate inventory of study supplies• Complete and retain study documentation and maintain study files in accordance with sponsor requirements and University policies and procedures• Maintain effective and ongoing communication with the sponsor, research participants, and PI during the course of the study• Assist PI in preparation of any modifications to the scientific protocol in accordance with federal regulations and university and sponsoring agency policies and procedures• Work with PI to manage the day to day activities of the study including problem solving, communication, and protocol management

As a research assistant at the Center for American Indian Community Health (CAICH) and American Indian Health Research and Education Alliance (AIHREA) at the University of Kansas Medical Center I have had the opportunity to work closely with the American Indian population through Community Based Participatory Research. Working with this population has provided me with countless and memorable experiences. These experiences include learning about their communities, cultures, and consenting individuals into a research study, creating educational materials, and administering and conducting surveys. I have created intervention materials to address chronic illness and seen the impact of these resources. Our team has traveled to and assisted Cheyenne River Sioux, Kickapoo Nation, and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, among others. To help reduce health disparities in the Native community, our team provides educationally tailored materials to inform the community of health risk and ways of prevention.

Being a community engagement & advocate summer intern I became more knowledgeable about Community Based Participatory Research and the American Indian and Alaska Native populations. We collaborated closely with the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation in Mayetta Kansas, the Kickapoo Nation in Horton Kansas, and the Cheyenne River Sioux in Eagle Butte South Dakota. As an intern we educated and promoted healthy habits through culturally tailored educational materials at the tribes' Boys and Girls Clubs. I assisted at the nutrition education table for the health screening clinic at the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation casino. I lead projects and education on first aid, fire safety, and social media bullying for American Indian youth at the summer recreation program in Eagle Butte South Dakota. I provided educational materials at the Cheyenne River Sioux Powwow. I presented a final poster on American Indian and Alaska Native colon cancer.

I had the joy to work with the elderly population and sit in on activities with them. These activities were art classes, fitness classes, and the discussion of current events. I assisted the elderly by helping during these classes to make it an enjoyable experience for them.

My time volunteering with the 3rd graders at the Boys and Girls Club-Thornberry Unit offered me the ability to grow as person of integrity and help inspire youth to achieve their goals. I was there to help with homework, play games, and most importantly be a friend to the kids. Being a role model and a mentor for the kids I encouraged them to do well in school and to do their best. Working with the youth in the community as a student volunteer, I wanted to make a difference in surrounding communities by exemplifying acts of humility, integrity, and compassion. These characteristics aid in inspiring youth to become productive members of society. As a result, it helps enrich the surrounding community through community service.
