From Philosophy Major to Compliance Business Analyst。As someone who lacked mentorship, I changed my major four times in college—starting with Sports Management, then Psychology, International Studies, and finally landing on Philosophy. I was constantly told to find a field I was passionate about since I'd be working in it for the next 30-40 years.But reality hit hard: being passionate about a subject doesn't always translate to loving every aspect of a career in that field. In my senior year, I seriously considered pursuing academia and becoming a Philosophy professor. One day, my Philosophy professor, who was a tenured faculty member, invited me to his office. He candidly shared his annual salary and said, "If you're okay with this lifestyle, pursue it. If not, consider changing your path."That conversation was a turning point. I decided to pursue an MBA and pivoted into IT and Business Analytics. I started my career as a Junior Business Analyst, then moved into Project Management, and now work as a Compliance Business Analyst. The biggest lesson I've learned along the way is that you don’t have to define yourself by a job title. We all wear multiple hats in life—as sons or daughters, husbands or wives, sports enthusiasts, coaches, or even side hustlers.Work is just one part of life, not the entire picture. The key is to live according to your principles and values and build a life that aligns with those.
