Research Trainee In Climate Resiliency
CurrentIn my role as an NSF Research Trainee, I am focused on the intersection between the environmental, economic, and social components of sustainability. More specifically, I work on interdisciplinary projects, publications, and presentations that emphasize the importance of public-facing, stakeholder-engaged scientific research. Alongside my cohort mates, I participate in numerous workshops and take specialized coursework focused on developing my skills in creative, interdisciplinary climate resiliency research and outreach.
Graduate Research Assistant
CurrentThe project I am working on in this role is titled, "The Future of Farming: Increasing Adoption of Conservation Practices among Alabama Row Crop Farmers," and is funded through a USDA-NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG). In my role, I work with a diverse and multidisciplinary team of stakeholders, including academic researchers, Alabama Cooperative Extension agents, farmers, and others. Broadly, I collect and analyze data regarding the barriers and opportunities which exist in conservation agriculture within Alabama. I study the interactions between the various stakeholders on the project to better understand the discourse surrounding topics like climate change, conservation agriculture, and the adoption of climate smart technology in the large-scale agriculture industry.I am working, using this data, both qualitative and quantitative, to develop practical, actionable research to lessen the negative environmental impacts of agriculture in Alabama, while improving the overall economic wellbeing of the agriculture industry.
Program Coordinator
I led efforts in starting the first prison education program housed by Indiana University. Using a team of IU graduate instructors and alums, we provided college-level visual arts training to classes of 15-20 incarcerated students in an Indiana state prison. Not only have our classes helped develop the students artistically, we've received tremendous feedback regarding the positive effect our classes have made on the overall mental wellbeing of the students. Additionally, we've held multiple public exhibitions of our students' work, giving voice to a largely ignored segment of the population and contributing to larger societal conversations around the value of prison education.
Graduate Assistant
Researcher And Writer
I served as a Researcher and Writer in the early stages of a project between NCAP and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), studying equity across SDC's membership and the theater industry as a whole. The project (ongoing) focuses on demographic equity and diversity, the efficacy of advanced degrees and other professional development opportunities in the field, and the general feasibility of a career in theater. It is a continuation of SDC's 2020 "On the Edge" Report (https://sdcweb.org/next-stage-report/).
Research Project Coordinator
I served as the Research Project Coordinator for NCAP's work in developing a cultural plan for the city of Fresno, CA. My responsibilities involved assisting in the coordination of an eleven-person research team, the conduction of quantitative and qualitative cultural research, and the development of plans for project implementation.
Contractor, Local Arts And Business Partnerships
In this role I assisted in the development of Part 3 of AFTA's "How to Partner with Your Chamber of Commerce" Resource Series. I conducted qualitative research on arts and business partnerships in numerous communities around the country, interpreting complex community dynamics into replicable, solution-based information, and developing these findings into an accessible, actionable resource guide.
