Perform complex scientific analyses related to CalRecycle’s initiatives on plastics and research of technologies that provide for the most efficient and effective management and reuse of materials. As part of the plastics and biodegradable materials research team, utilizes knowledge of chemical and physical characteristics of polymers to identify, evaluate, and report policy options and implement programs that minimize the potential impacts of plastic pollution to land and marine environments. Appointed by the Governor of California, I am responsible for multiple program operations within the Bureau. As a member of the Executive Management Team, I define our strategic plans and guide performance across divisions to ensure alignment with public policy, best practices, and constituent needs. I also administer our budget; prepare forecasts; build a team of more than 50 (17 directly reporting); interpret state legislation; craft policy; and lead investigative procedures. Notable Achievements:• Spearheaded the transfer/integration of the Division of Household Movers to the Department of Consumer Affairs from the CA Public Utility Commission. During this time, I was in the Waste Permitting, Compliance, & Mitigation Division, where I led stakeholder communications and engagement for the Permitting & Assistance branch. This included generating and presenting reports for internal and public meetings, reviewing environmental documentation, interpreting CEQA statutes and guidelines to make recommendations, and maintaining permitting databases and modules.
