I have a variety of experience working with non-profit, private business, and government agencies. Some of my most stimulating and rewarding work has been developing small business operations and procedures from the ground up. The learning curve can be steep but the growth opportunities on both professional and personal levels are humbling. I excel at performing solitary work tasks, and yet I deeply appreciate the creativity and innovation that comes from group interactions and problem solving (caffeine energizes me; people inspire me). I enjoy learning new technologies and how to apply them to work smarter and more efficiently. I've found that technology has helped me improve team communications and transparency, and I'd much rather spend my time building a relationship than shuffling paper. Being accountable for large and small numbers of workers for various employers has led me to recognize that supervising has been one of the most difficult yet inspiring areas of my career. Being challenged to find my own answers rather than simply being given them has taught me to challenge others in the same way; I consider an open door policy, good listening skills, open-ended questions, and affirmations some of the best skills to practice when leading others. So often when we are charged with increasing efficiencies or reducing barriers, we interact with those who already have the answers and we simply need to help them articulate it. Leaders work for the success of their front line workers, not the other way around. Without reciprocal respect and goodwill between leadership and workers, the relationship will flounder and so follows the group's success. Take care of your people and they will take care of you.
