I am a lawyer specializing in civil and commercial litigation and administrative law. I am a practical and creative problem solver, a strong legal researcher and writer, and an effective counsellor and negotiator.As Legal Counsel, I have advised the judiciary of the trial courts across Alberta on the substantive, procedural and evidentiary aspects of a wide range of cases. My experience includes civil and commercial matters, statutory appeals and judicial reviews, aboriginal law, constitutional division of powers and Charter applications, and criminal applications and trials. I served on the QB/KB Civil Steering Committee, recommending improvements to civil procedure and civil access to justice.In private practice, I acted in insurance claims for municipalities and recreational sports operators, provided security opinions for sophisticated commercial lenders, conducted athlete administrative appeals for a national sports organization, and wrote opinions on the constitutional law aspects of a significant energy facility application. I have appeared at all levels of court in Alberta, in arbitrations, and negotiations.I earned an LL.M. from the University of California, Berkeley, in Energy and Clean Technology Law, where I researched international and comparative law and environmental law. My J.D. is from the University of Calgary, and I completed a natural resources law clinical placement at Imperial Oil Ltd. and an exchange in human rights law to the University of Oslo, Norway. I graduated B.A. (Hons.) with Distinction from Trinity College at the University of Toronto, with an exchange to Uppsala University, Sweden.I support professional development, including making presentations to the judiciary and lawyers, and have supervised and mentored articling students and younger lawyers. I also volunteer for youth causes.
