I have had the pleasure of volunteering as an extra set of hands during the Special Education Department's Extended School Year. This year, I am serving as an official intern, working with a Autism-specific class of preschoolers at Ladera Elementary School. I am working hands-on with students, teachers, aides, and other support staff in order to learn how state-enforced educational standards affect day-to-day classroom activity, resource allocation, and overall quality of experience for students. I am serving as a classroom assistant running learning stations for fine motor skills, sensory stimulation, monitoring recess and play time, and assisting with general classroom duties.
