I tested and received my license to sell insurance in the state of Wisconsin in February 2019. I have joined the family business as a way to help fund my own way through college at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. My Summer School Special Education Teacher role entails supporting students with diverse needs throughout their summer school experience. This includes creating and providing accommodations, modifications, and behavioral supports.

I was a Special Education student teacher and worked with kids in K4, 3rd grade, and 5th grade with a diverse range of needs. I learned how to use evidence-based curriculums such as Sonday and Edmark, and experienced progress monitoring, data collection, writing IEPs, lesson planning (in the areas of reading, writing, math, functional/daily living skills, and more), and working with dysregulation and other behavioral needs.

I had the opportunity to student teach in the same class where I completed my practicum. This gave me the opportunity to work with a group of students who I had developed amazing relationships with. During this placement, I planned and taught entire units, learned about and proctored assessments, and more.

This placement was completed in a virtual 5th grade classroom due to COVID-19. This placement focused on lesson planning, teaching, and assessing students in the areas of Math, Science, and Social Studies. I had the opportunity to plan my own unit of curriculum on Elections and Voting.

I spent my first semester at Crestwood in a second grade classroom, where I experienced lesson planning, teaching language arts, math, science, and social studies. I was lucky enough to also have my second semester of practicum at Crestwood with a Cross-Categorical Special Education teacher where we worked with kids from different grades. I had the opportunity to experience working with a wide range of needs and abilities. I also experienced IEP writing and meetings in addition to lesson planning and teaching.

Milwaukee Therapeutic Rec runs a summer program called "Club Rec", which aims to provide a fun, learning based summer for students with disabilities. I work with students with Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Angleman's Syndrome, traumatic brain injuries, and various learning disabilities. My job is to run a class called Special Events, which is a class where we dabble in just about everything you can think of; science experiments, cultural activities from around the world, art projects, dress up days, and so much more.
