Graduate Researcher
Principle Investigator: Margaret Salisu Ph.D.The purpose of this research is to identify the themes that underlie the root of patient experience, especially any inequalities between different patients experiences. We will use this information to develop a patient experience app to help better serve the patients of the Brooklyn area. The role I played in this research was to research past articles that explain previous methods of gaining patient experience. Within my research I found common themes of cultural diversity, racism/discrimination, medical mistrust, provider responsiveness, and patient access.Another role I played was the recruitment of participants. Participants were recruited from SUNY Downstate Medical Center from a variety of clinics. Sessions would be held over zoom and participants would be asked questions regarding how they are treated by doctors/nurses at the hospital.
Pharmacy Technician
As a pharmacy technician I was responsible for receiving and filling prescriptions sent over from doctors. I was in charge of making sure the correct medications were dispensed to patients in a timely manner. Another part of my role was interacting with the customers. This entailed making sure I was well-versed in pharmacology to be able to answer any questions the customers had. I was also in charge of ordering medications and any supplies that were needed for the pharmacy.
Undergraduate Researcher
Principle Investigator: Jennifer Drake Ph.D.The purpose of this research was to compare the effect drawing has on children. Overtime the research was expanded to determine if there was a difference in how drawing effects children depending on their age (younger children vs.older children). My role as a graduate research would be to go to the children’s museum and the metropolitan museum of art and recruit participants for the study. I would then discuss the current mood of the child then get them to tell me an event in their life that made them sad. After discussing the effect for about 2 minutes I would assess their mood and then instruct the child to draw whatever picture they wanted. Once completed, I would assess the mood of the child again to determine if there was any change. Although drawing improved the mood of both groups, it had a greater effect on the younger children.
