As a Biotech Team Lead, I managed a team of five Biotechnologists with varying levels of experience. I coordinated the running of the cleanroom and worked with my team to complete the daily activities. I was responsible for the training and development of my team, both within the cleanroom and the office. In the office my role included the writing and review of quality documentation (CAPAs, change controls and quality incidents), review of document updates and batch manufacturing records, and ensuring all preparations for batch manufacture were completed ahead of schedule. Additionally I was involved in investigations and prep work for the introduction of LIMS system.

As a Biotechnologist, I primarily worked in the cleanroom manufacturing lentiviral vectors. I became proficient in large scale adherent cell culture; upstream processing including transfection and induction; and downstream processing including clarification and purification using AKTA Ready chromatography. Office roles included stock control using IFS ERP system, equipment management, SOP updates, and various continuous improvement projects.

I was a member of St John Ambulance for five years, volunteering as a First Aider at local events. I also taught first aid to students at Oxford Brookes University. First aid demands a variety of skills including patience, dedication and teamwork; in addition to the ability to remain calm and focussed under stressful situations.

During the four months working as a QA Associate, I learnt to release products on both electronic and paper-based systems. I was also trained in the recording of significant non-conformance reports and CAPAs, which I then contributed towards writing and performing.

I worked in the cleanroom of a pharmaceutical compounding unit, involved in the production of chemotherapy and total parenteral nutrition (TPN) for the local hospitals. I gained excellent experience in aseptic technique, GMP, GDP, microbiological environmental monitoring, product visual inspection, stock control, in process checking, non-conformance reporting, and numerous other skills.After a year I progressed to band two status; gaining skills and understanding that enabled me to confidently contribute to the running of the cleanroom. I regularly organised and directed workflow and resources in the two productions systems; communicating with both the customer services and quality assurance departments to ensure maximum productivity. I had an active role in the routine procedures within the cleanroom; including organising the monthly environmental monitoring and performing regular equipment checks for calibration or maintenance. Finally, my knowledge and understanding of production enabled me to effectively provide cover for the band three technicians, and give support, guidance and training to band two and one technicians when required.
