Toxoplasma gondii bacteria infects about 1/3 of the human population. While typically harmless in immunocompetent individuals, pregnant and immunocompromised individuals are at risk for life threatening infection. In addition, recent data suggests that people who are antibody positive for T. gondii can have subtle cognitive deficits. The connection of these findings to more serious clinical conditions such as schizophrenia and epilepsy is unclear. I am contributing to a data set investigation focused on identifying this bacteria in the human proteome that will assist in developing biomarkers to better understand the pathology of this infection.

Commonly referred to as “Port Wine Stain Birthmarks” vascular anomalies are venous malformations that pose a risk to development by disrupting blood flow networks. Through the sequencing of human samples, coupled with in vitro and in vivo work, I contribute to a research project focused on identifying the genetic basis for these potentially life threatening conditions.

Serve on the executive board, manage finances and fundraising activities for AMWA. The oldest multispecialty organization dedicated to advancing women in medicine and improving women’s health. Its membership comprises physicians, residents, medical students, pre-medical students, healthcare professionals, and supporters. Its mission is to advance women in medicine, advocate for equity and ensure excellence in healthcare.

I had the amazing experience of being an intern in the Discovery Oncology department at Merck. I was able to learn about the drug development process and contribute to hands on research.
