Design, development and management of independent projects to characterize mechanisms by which pathogens avoid the mammalian immune system. One pathogen, the African trypanosome, causes the devastating neglected tropical disease called African sleeping sickness in humans and in livestock. It was previously unknown how they interacted with the host innate immune system. Using a wide range of cell-based, biophysical, protein crystallography and in vivo model techniques, I have investigated completely novel host-parasite interactions at the molecular level.

Supervised all levels of students (masters to PhD) performing thesis projects from Cambridge and other UK universities. Taught techniques to researchers and to PhD students from international institutions, resulting in collaborations. Able to design and manage attainable projects.

Long-term collaboration to develop targeted monoclonal-based treatment for African sleeping sickness.

MaRS is one of the world’s largest innovation centres that seeks to commercialize medical research and technology. I worked within Business Advisory Services, with the Vice President of Partnerships and the VP of Business Services to help improve onboarding of new mentors and perform donor research. In the healthcare sector, I helped plan the Business of Aging and the Future of Medicine Conferences.
