For the past few years at Hurricane High School I have been exploring pathways torwards Elementary Education. I took a Leadership Class that taught principles of good leaders. Then as part of that class I implemented what I was learning in the school setting. I mentored children at LaVerkin Elementary three days a week. I’ve worked with kids in 1st, 4th, and 5th grades. I learned how to connect with the kids, communicate with the teachers, support their instruction, listen in social settings, and how much I love working with children.I’ve struggled with anxiety and adhd growing up, but went for a long time without being diagnosed. It was a relief to learn how to avoid some of the common pitfalls I was falling into and empowering to feel more in control. I feel like I can use my own experiences to benefit kids who might be struggling in the same ways I did. I’ve had to learn and implement tactics to help me focus, prioritize, and limit distractions for my educational success.

  After working with Mrs. Severe at Hurricane Elementary since January. I was in a class with 26 kids and absolutely loved my time there! I learned how to enter grades, teach, and communicate with the students. It was a crazy experience and really showed my my passion for teaching and working with kids.
