As a Teaching Assistant, I worked with SEND students both in lessons and in 1-to-1 intervention sessions to help them to improve their academic performance and personal development (with a focus on literacy). I also mentored a group of SEND children, tracking their progress and emotional wellbeing, providing support and guidance and (when necessary) extracurricular intervention weekly. I completed a voluntary marketing placement at Greencore Food to Go site in Worksop, where I worked with various team members to gain experience in several various departments such as branding, sales, design, market research and NPD. I utilised my experience within Starbucks - my daily interactions with customers, my knowledge of the company and the market and my heavy involvement in merchandising and promotional sales - to feed back to the company on the coffee shop market, also suggesting ways that Greencore could push innovative and exciting new products out to current customers.

I have learnt how to work both within a team and independently, how to handle difficult customers and situations, how to create coffee 'art', and what it means to be a good barista. I have trained to become coffee master, learning more closely about the origins of Starbucks' fairtrade coffee, and have also taken part in the 2016 UK Barista Championships, reaching the Regionals. During my time at Starbucks, I was also involved with various marketing strategies and promotions, and excelled in roles involving customer interactions. I helped to sell a record 55 products at the store’s recent ‘coffee-at-home’ day, I was in charge of promoting Starbucks Hanley through their social media account. I also helped to orchestrate the store’s merchandise change-over every few months

I was responsible for any Creative Writing articles that were published to the UK website or the monthly printed edition, and had to ensure that I remained professional and innovative, and set the University in a good light.

After receiving my initial Barista Training, I worked at Keele Services for 6 and a half months. I learnt how to make coffee, how it is picked, ground and brewed, and also its different origins. I gained invaluable experience in customer service, learnt how to balance tasks, how to work efficiently yet effectively, and how to keep a fast pace in a bustling, busy environment. I left to study for a semester abroad, and upon my return transferred to the Hanley branch of Starbucks.

At the Fairways I took the role of waitress and bar staff member, serving food, and (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) drinks to customers. In this role I gained experience on tills, taking bookings and performing other administrative tasks, and learnt how to provide excellent customer service. I also did children's face painting throughout the summer period, giving me experience with children and families from a young age.
