The café has been supported by volunteers, to get a social eating space up and running where people can come and be social with others, make friends and learn more about what happens at Involve. I acted as café manager, maintaining health & safety records as well as those of potential and current volunteers. Ensuring that volunteers were able to work effectively in the roles set out to support the project, I helped to implement strategies to manage the complications of running a café… Show more The café has been supported by volunteers, to get a social eating space up and running where people can come and be social with others, make friends and learn more about what happens at Involve. Ensuring that volunteers were able to work effectively in the roles set out to support the project, I helped to implement strategies to manage the complications of running a café with limited food and budget. All our food is 'surplus' to supermarket requirement. Through charities like FareShare and SuperKitchen, we were able to accept deliveries of food to serve healthy, filling meals to many people from different walks of life. I have enjoyed being able to see things work well, and support others to help them grow in confidence and ability. Having the time to talk to café visitors and make them feel welcome and learn more about the support networks available through Involve and other services in Lincolshire - but most importantly I loved every minute doing something I never thought I would accomplish. After this I undertook an NVQ Level 2 as a Teaching Assistant where my skills in I.T were noticed and led to a position supporting teaching staff and the school in all I.T related matters from troubleshooting, to maintenance of the school network and devices.
