Junior Designer - Penguin Young Readers
Marketing Designer for Penguin Young Readers publishing house, creating cross functional social media and marketing assets for the key titles, brand partners, and its imprints
Creative Specialist
I started as a recurring volunteer for MET. When they found looking for more operation's assistance, they looked to me, my familiarity with their community, and my past experience in marketing and design work. I became a part of their team at a critical time of growth, and helped curate their social media, expand their audience reach with marketing campaigns, and assisted in the planning programs for their future expansion. This small team experience was very different from any other; each of us were our own director and co-worker. I was pushed out of my comfort zones and confronted to make big decisions in sensitive non-profit environment.
Junior Designer
I began as a graphic design intern in their summer program. I found camaraderie with peers for first time with fellow interns and my design team. As I continued to work there as both a marketing designer and packaging designer intern, I learned that while career exploration is important and fun, also having a design focus is key to maximizing my best skills. I narrowed my focus on marketing entering into full time work, and found a path that included animations, illustrations, branding, email design, web design, and more.
Lead Artist
Initially starting as a Freelancer for their game "Runaway," I was onboarded to fully focus on creating a brand identity for the company. I used my marketing knowledge I was learning during my summer internship with Boxed to help advertise their name and "Runaway." I set up their website and email mailing list, designed promotional print media, and helped create a convention experience. As the game grew bigger, I formed a team of artists, designers, and animators to complete a working alpha build of Runaway. I learned leadership and organizational management while working for Burning Sky and was able to explore my own illustrative style.
Graphic Design Intern
Despite being an intern, I faced incredible responsibility as the only in-house creative. I worked mainly for marketing, but faced many design challenges creating a new style guide and implementing a new corporate template materials that catered to all departments, from finance to executive board. I was particularly challenged when I was trusted to redesign Triumph Group's website, coordinating with external coders, and providing the web assets. It launched with success, and I still feel incredibly proud the design is still used today.
Graphic Design Intern
Super Lawyers of Thompson Reuter's was my first career-related job. I learned the foundations of keeping design files organized and learned that as the key to efficient designing. The internship also allowed me to explore illustration in the publication field and work with clients driven paid placements and advertisements. I truly excelled and found visual storying telling as my high valued skill with the support of the production managers and co-workers. The work was comfortably close to home, but made me eager to see the rest of the world.
