Supporting strategic and technical aspects on San Francisco’s fight to secure non-citizen voting rights.

As an Immigration Services intern, I met with clients who are in the process of applying for citizenship within the United States. I helped aid clients in filling out their applications and helped to hold them accountable to their immigration appointments and fees. The International Institute of Minnesota deals with current and urgent policies such as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) rescindment and the cancellation of Temporary Protective Status (TPS). During these times, I worked with Spanish speaking clients helping them renew the necessary documents before the government deadlines.

As a Peer Mentor I mentored 25-30 freshmen and sophomore students at the University of Minnesota. I met with students twice a semester on campus to aid them in their success as undergraduate students.

Research Assistant, University Research Opportunities Program (UROP) at University of Minnesota. Project title: Xican@ Art since 1848, PI Dr.Karen Mary Davalos.In my capacity as a Research Assistant, I worked under Dr. Karen Mary Davalos on her project Xican@ Art Since 1848 a comprehensive, multi-volume book and digital archive that harvests information from existing collections across the nation. I conducted research on Mexican American art and artists within Minnesota and created spreadsheets to organize exhibitions of a local arts collective and the finding aid for an artist’s archive. I also conducted library research, supervised other students, created and edited bibliographies for articles and other projects Dr. Davalos was working on, and used my knowledge of Spanish to help research Spanish newspapers and articles.
