As a Student Digital Champion working for the University of Bristol's Digital Education Office I work on multiple projects including surveys, guides, blog posts and general feedback concerning the student digital learning experience with the university. This is a highly collaborative and team centred role which relies heavily on communication skills amongst co-workers, peers and university staff, but is also demanding in terms of problem solving ability when aiming to solve and improve the student experience.

As a mentor I provided a friendly face who welcomed new students to the university, answered their questions and reassured them, keeping in touch on a regular basis via email or meeting up in person. The role entailed using my personal experience to help mentees get the most out of their first year at university, offering reassurance about concerns, supporting mentees to develop their own revision or essay skills, signposting them to relevant University services or be someone who will listen in a non-judgemental way. This role heavily drew on my listening and communication skills and most invaluably I found that it developed my ability to empathise and understand individuals who come from wholly different backgrounds to myself.
