Our goal is to understand how humans achieve safe, balanced and skillful movement. Falls are a major public health problem. Injuries from falls can lead to death, chronic pain, disability and loss of independence. While most balance research focuses on older adults, our research focuses on falls across the lifespan, as we have shown that falls are not a trivial problem for even young adults (Heijnen & Rietdyk, 2016; Cho et al., 2022). Undergraduate students in the lab get hands-on opportunities, including assistance with subject recruitment, data collection, and data analysis. Students meet weekly with Dr. Rietdyk and the graduate students in the Biomechanics Lab.

At Eisenhower Health, I currently work in the clinic division float pool. I perform admitting activities: registering patients and maintaining compliance according to departmental benchmark guidelines. I verify and accurately enter patient information while fulfilling organizational policies, like HIPPA. This position also entails me to demonstrate and maintain all other departmental accuracy and productivity standards.

The past year I have been shadowing hand therapy at the Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center for my interest in Occupational Therapy, as well as inpatient OT rehabilitation at Eisenhower’s main hospital.

At Island Heat, I had several responsibilities: meeting monthly sales goals, checking in customers, answering questions, thoroughly cleaning tanning beds, laundry, and opening/closing duties.
