In November of 2021, I was promoted from Bookseller at Exclusive Books, to Shift leader. Along with my previous duties as a bookseller, I was also in charge of overseeing operations when the manager was absent, assigning duties to staff during shifts, training new and current team members, and handling customer issues and staff conflicts.

I started working at EB in November 2017. By working in the general trade industry, I have become accustomed to dealing with customers and liaising with authors. Furthermore, my experience at Exclusive Books has helped me gather a deep understanding of the South African publishing industry. I believe that this knowledge would contribute greatly to a position as a sales representative or an editorial assistant.

I have worked as a freelance editor for academic dissertations and theses. My experience as a freelance editor has helped me work with tight schedules and deadlines. It has also helped me understand the collaborative dynamic between author and editor - one where both parties respect one another.

I started working at Stubborn Raven as an unpaid intern. The publishing house was rather small, with a total of four employees - including me. After my first year at Stubborn Raven, I was offered the position of the junior publisher. I was also promoted from intern to partner. After this promotion, I was offered a monthly salary for handling the publishing house's Twitter profile. When I started working with Stubborn Raven, they had 53 followers, however; by the time the publisher closed, we had about 600 followers. I was also in charge of reading and evaluating submitted manuscripts, writing rejection letters to authors, as well as suggesting what changes may better their work. Unfortunately, the publishing house met its end in 2021 during the Covid 19 pandemic. The publishing house has since removed its profile from Twitter - meaning that there is no way to observe my skills as a social media manager.
