About Olivier Thomann
I am passionate about green hydrogen (i.e hydrogen produced from renewable electricity) and the opportunities it unlocks for power-to-X conversion (e-fuels, e-polymer). This topic brings together elements that are dear to my heart such as energy security, fighting climate change, energy systems and sustainable business development.I have 13 years of experience in the technical field of green hydrogen, power-to-X and fuel cells. I started my career as a scientist at the Technical Research Center of Finland. During that time, I contributed by performing and leading research work, writing quality articles (co-authored 12 peer-review papers), designing testing infrastructure for fuel cells and electrolyzers, writing winning EU-project funding proposals (1.3 MEUR external funding) and managing large research projects (project manager certification from IPMA C, 2019). I defended my PhD on Solid Oxide Fuel Cell systems in 2015. When green hydrogen started to gather momentum in the industry, I joined Neste where I am contributing as a technology expert in projects related to Renewable Hydrogen and Power-to-X. I screen technology alternatives, benchmark them based on their performance, cost, sustainability and safety and recommend the best fit for Neste’s investment projects. I interact with technology suppliers for information exchange and establishing cooperation. I am also managing projects at Neste. I studied materials science and engineering in EPFL, Switzerland and IIT Bombay, India.
