I'm a veterinary surgeon who graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2024. My interests encompass many areas of small animal medicine, surgery and academia. I pride myself on my technical skills, communication skills and my love for what I do and what I teach.I achieved a high first-class BA in physiology and neuroscience during my undergraduate degree, where I worked with a fantastic research group in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience. During my final year, I produced a mathematical model of calcium movement within the t-tubular sarcoplasmic reticular junction of the skeletal muscle trial, employing the finite element method, which is used particularly in the engineering field. My research following this has continued to utilise this method to investigate intercellular communication in the heart and I continue to work with my research group to elucidate the intricacies of skeletal muscle electrophysiology. I currently supervise Part II projects in this field at the University of Cambridge.Teaching is a huge passion and hobby of mine, and during my veterinary medicine degree I taught small-group sessions ("supervisions") for first and second year natural scientists and veterinary students at the University of Cambridge in the fields of physiology, veterinary sciences, professionalism and reproductive biology. During my final year rotations, I developed my interest in small animal medicine particularly, and I attained high marks, graduating with 3 special merits in my final exam papers and merits across most rotation criteria. I look forward to furthering my interests, which I developed during final year rotations, during my new graduate position in Newcastle starting this September. I hope to be able to continue teaching in the future, namely teaching new graduate veterinary surgeons once I have gained sufficient experience in clinical practice myself, but also by considering positions at academic institutions for further professional development. My research interests are also expanding, and my current work aims to focus my investigative approach at a veterinary problem by exploring avenues for diagnostics of neoplastic disease in small animals. While continuing my research in electrophysiology, I hope to pick up projects in the veterinary field, to contribute to the ever-expanding veterinary literature base and make a long-term impact on evidence-based veterinary practice. Please do get in touch with any opportunities!

Group AdministratorVetwings Sep 2021 - PresentVetWings is a Facebook group that was created to support vet students during the COVID-19 pandemic when extra-mural studies (EMS) placements were being cancelled to prevent the spread of disease. VetWings serves as a community enabling students to learn from qualified and experienced veterinary surgeons as they share advice and case examples. It also allows students to ask specific questions and offers a platform for students to suggest how they would manage cases and learn from the advice others can give. We are successful in keeping VetWings a safe environment for learning and enable freedom of speech.VetWings, at the time of writing, has just under 17,000 members and is managed by 7 administrators. I was invited to administrate VetWings in September 2021 as the group expanded hugely, and due to my presence and understanding of social media and veterinary groups. -

I was invited to join the East Anglia committee, and as the most junior volunteer on the committee I learned a lot about how CPD events are organised, how the BSAVA is structured and how it functions, and I am shortly joining the North East region to continue this work. -
