I'm a Jack of many traits! A generalist in growth. After 20+ years in different industries I decided to formalize that part where I've had the biggest kicks - differentiation through business models. Currently finalizing PhD thesis on "Future Value of Outcome-Based Contracts (read: Product-as-a-Service) in production equipment" where I researched the feasibility and long-term value of these business models both from the suppliers' and the customers' perspective in a changing world using futures studies methods. Why these business models are important, especially for western equipment manufacturers?1) High value (and high cost) equipment can best be sold through Total Cost of Ownership. PaaS business models are a way to share that value and risk in a fair and lucrative manner. In fact, PaaS can result in immediate savings as well as life cycle savings/profit for both.2) Contrary to popular belief these business models are not that difficult to design. There are existing tools available, it's actually a very logical process. Not trivial but doable for all companies.3) Changing business models is not easy, but possible. KPIs, incentives and responsibilities might change, but doable. Some examples of prior action in these:-Tamturbo (www.tamturbo.com) global sales was under my responsibility. The product manufacturing cost is multiples of the competition's but we have managed to pick many of the world's largest oil-free customers from the big competitors through life cycle value and especially PaaS.-New product concepts can also be utilized by the market leaders (Konecranes CXT Explorer, RENTALL industrial crane rental)-Businesses are rarely run alone. I've been responsible for building partner channels for a scale-up (distributors, OEM partners) and stock listed companies-Active internal collaboration is needed to realize innovations. I have been responsible for building a very active internal (and external) innovation ecosystem to an "old industry" company, with thousands of active participants and a network of internal facilitators. -Facilitating strategy and product innovation processes (both internally and as a hired consultant).-Several patents. Interests: Anything new and exciting that creates differentiation. Nature.MBTI: ENFP. Definitely a starter-type personality. A bit of ADHD maybe.PADI Rescue Diver. Father of four.

General Manager, Business FactoryKonecranes Feb 2015 - Jul 2016Strategy & TechnologyGeneral Manager responsible for the creation and management of the corporate Business Factory - an internal growth accelerator targeted at business opportunities with new business models or in new markets. Reporting to the Executive Board. Leading two cases to successful handover to BU’s with P&L responsibility, a lot of fun and sweat as a sort-of start-up within a (sometimes slow-moving) large organization.Accomplishments:Konecranes RENTALL, now available globally: http://www.konecranes.com/equipment/overhead-cranes/konecranes-rentall. A rental business model is not trivial when the equipment can't really be relocated. Turning the CAPEX game into a win-win-model for us and our customers. And turning some heads in the organization that sometimes didn't see how this could be done...CXT Explorer (http://www.konecranes.com/equipment/overhead-cranes/wire-rope-hoist-cranes/cxt-explorer), officially launched March 2016. A totally new market and product category. Proven components put in a box with a twist! -
