Human Antibody Therapeutics is part of a multidisciplinary laboratory platform that develops pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical drugs. This laboratory in which I was active holds great expertise in employing highly diverse repertoires of antibody fragments combined with phage display technology and selection strategies to construct fragments with specificities for a target antigen. In one of the ongoing projects for a biopharmaceutical drug I fully participated in the design, organization and evaluation, as well as independently conducted and reported several of the experiments involved in the aforementioned process. These were: the construction of the phage library; biotinylation and completion of a stability study of the selection target; performing the selection, molecular cloning and ELISA screening of hundreds of selected clones.

In Per Jemths lab I successfully defended my PhD thesis entitled "Characterization and engineering of protein-protein interactions involving PDZ domains.". It dealt with fundamental aspects of protein-ligand interactions, but also with the design of a potential protein drug. I recombinantly produced and purified the different proteins used throughout my thesis work and therefore gained extensive experience of methods for E. coli based protein expression. I also successfully employed both protein engineering and phage display-technologies, combined with selection strategies. I designed and constructed many of the protein constructs studied in this work, using cloning and PCR. The scientific data that I generated was done so with different biophysical methods and techniques. My PhD provided great training in analyzing and evaluating scientific data, preparing manuscripts for publication of scientific studies in peer-review journals, supervising MSc-students and teaching in the laboratory. All documentation as well as written and oral reporting was conducted in English. My PhD also greatly improved my ability to independently plan and execute my work.
