Dr. Oluwakemi Atanda Ilori (born September 1959) studied Drama and Literature at the University of Ife, (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, Nigeria from 1978 to 1985. He obtained B.A. Drama (2nd Class Upper) in 1982 and M.A. Literature with specialism in Creative Writing in 1985. He taught at the University of Ife from 1983 until 1990. He obtained M.A. in Housing Policy (Sheffield Hallam University) in 1998 and a PhD in Housing (University of Bradford) in 2012. In 2016, Ilori obtained his second PhD in Performance and Cultural Industries (University of Leeds).ILORI is a published poet and author on social housing in the UK and Nigerian Literature and Drama. His books on the theatre of Wole Soyinka and the theatre of Ola Rotimi are invaluable academic resources. His "Chinua Achebe and Other Poems" reinterprets the works of Chinua Achebe, and the troubling facets of postcolonialism across sub-Saharan Africa. In 2020, ILORI published “Enjoying the Promises of God: A Theology of Sovereignty”, “The Wicked Witch and Other Accomplices (Poems)” and “The Theatre of J.P. Clark”. Along with his academic and publishing roles, Kemi Atanda ILORI is the founding General Overseer of Living Hope Church Kemi ILORI Ministries with branches in Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Uganda, United Kingdom and Zimbabwe. I was promoted to full grade Lecturer in 1987, teaching dramatic literature, and courses in the history and theory of drama and theatre, and directing and producing plays for both the stage and broadcast media. I immigrated to the United Kingdom in 1990, following a scholarship from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Between 1983 and 1990, I published a number of peer-reviewed journal articles on dramatic arts, four of my radio plays were broadcast by the then Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, several of my critical reviews of theatre performances were published in the African Guardian, the University published a monograph of my poems and the Association of Nigerian Authors published my volume of poems, Amnesty, in 1988.Following my immigration to the UK, I made a career change from academics to social housing, and trained as a social housing practitioner. I joined Brunel Housing in Bradford in May 1993, moved to South Yorkshire Housing Association in Sheffield in 2001 and then to Manningham Housing Association in Bradford in 2002, where I led the Housing Services department until 15th July, 2011. I obtained my doctorate in Housing from the University of Bradford in 2012. In April 2013, I commenced a second doctoral programme at the University of Leeds. I graduated from the University with a doctorate in Performance and Cultural Industries on Friday 16th December, 2016. My thesis was on the theatre of Wole Soyinka, the first African to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986. The thesis has now become a book of invaluable resource on the theatre of Wole Soyinka.
