I inspect commercial businesses to determine the nature of business, user classification, wastewater generating process; and the magnitude, type, and strength of wastes produced. I prepare and issue notifications of non-compliance and initiate enforcement actions as needed. I discuss violations with business owners and representatives to assist them with coming into compliance. I interpret and apply federal, state, and local water quality regulations. I enforce the City’s Pretreatment Program as required by the EPA; City, and TCEQ regulations regarding non-domestic wastewater discharges.I conduct field-testing on samples for various parameters including, but not limited to, pH, sulfides, explosive materials and gases; perform other field monitoring as required.I process industrial discharge permits.My main task is to prepare and maintain inspection reports and records, including observations, action taken, recommendations, and follow-up utilizing handwritten records and a computer database. I prepare and summarize correspondence, reports, records, or other materials necessary for enforcement action taken by the City or by other agencies. I perform monitoring and sampling activities needed to determine industry and business compliance. I schedule inspections, monitoring and sampling activities in collaboration with customers and City staff. I attend appropriate meetings and seminars as necessary to update skills and remain informed of current issues and regulations. I utilize technical equipment such as automatic samplers, flow meters, pH meters; perform routine maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on same. I interpret and apply federal, state, and local water quality regulations. I operate a City vehicle in performance of assigned duties and responsibilities. I perform other work required including reviewing periodic compliance reports, processing sampling fees, implementing ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001.
