At the Center of Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (CBICA), I am developing image and data processing pipelines to analyze 3D Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) and 2D Digital Mammogram (DM) screening cohort datasets. I am working closely with radiologists, epidemiologists, physicians, and cancer scientists. I am so grateful for having wonderful collaborators.1. I developed an advanced Python toolkit using deep learning and other artificial intelligence techniques to segment and assess breast percentage density, an important risk factor for breast cancer, from DM images (a manuscript was submitted to MedIA). The toolkit results improved breast cancer risk assessment performance on an independent case-control dataset compared to available commercial software (Volapara and Quantra), clinical approach (BI-RADS), and a research-based toolkit (LIBRA). I developed and compared convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for segmentation tasks (Paper: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-59861-7_21) from scratch including all required modules for loading, saving, training, testing, modeling, applying data augmentation, and preprocessing.The code can be found on:https://github.com/omaghsoudi/O-Net3. I am collaborating with Mayo Clinics, University of San Francisco, International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), Kaiser Health Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the University of Western Australia on various breast cancer studies.4. I have been CaPTk liaison of the CBIG group (https://cbica.github.io/CaPTk/People.html).5. I have been mentoring graduate students to assess breast cancer risk from DBT images using deep learning (classification and regression).
