Bergvik provides quality raised floor designs from up-front analysis to integration, assembly, and testing. In that regard, my engineering assignment includes (1) extensive modelling and design of custom-made raised floor and bracing frames using Fusion and Revit, and (2) analyzing the aforementioned flooring systems, qualifying, verifying, and quantifying their structural integrity thru engineering calcs, FEM analysis (SAP2000), engineering testing (i.e. shake test) in compliance with common practice, design specifications, and structural engineering codes such as UFC-310, IBC, AISC-690/A360, ASCE-7, ACI-318, and OSHA. My non-engineering role constitutes of completing some administrative and managerial assignments internally with our Bergvik offices worldwide and externally with our fabricators, vendors, and clients.

My position at Ellis & Watts entailed the (1) modeling, (2) designing, and (3) analyzing of various systems in nuclear and aerospace applications (seismic, tornado, hurricane, blast). It involved extensive finite element modeling using ANSYS software and structural analysis that complies with common practice, design specifications, and engineering codes such as AISC-N690 and AWS. Other jobs include (4) generating seismic reports, and (5) overseeing shake table tests.

My position at the Computational and Hydrodynamics and Informatics Lab (CHIL) focused on (1) suggesting efficient and reliable computational modeling techniques of hurricane storm surge. A tradeoff between accuracy and efficiency is considered in order to make timely decisions on evacuation schemes after a hurricane activity or to better predict the damage on infrastructure systems at an optimal cost. (2) As a part of this project, I am collaborating with engineers, social scientists, psychologists, computer scientists, and notable researchers from Wright State University and the University of Notre Dame. Additional roles and tasks include (2) attending conferencing, (3) chairing workshop and conference sessions, (4) mentoring undergraduate students, and (5) teaching stem classes.The project consists of my following contributions:• Developing adaptive mesh refinement and coarsening framework for hurricane storm surge models using Fortran and predicting potential losses to infrastructure systems and communities in a hurricane: • Collaborating with engineers, social scientists, psychologists, computer scientists, and notable researchers from Wright State University and the University of Notre Dame.• Attending, conferences, seminars and workshops, where I have the opportunity to present my work and network with notable researchers.• Seeking a long term opportunity to convince officials and designers (e.g. National Hurricane Center) to adopt these strategies , hence, facilitating evacuation systems and yielding faster recovery of infrastructure systems and communities after a hurricane activity.

As a graduate teaching associate at the Department of Engineering Education, I came to realize that teaching is centered around the students' needs in order to grow in knowledge, critical thinking, and engineering judgment. In that respect, my teaching duties included the following:• Teaching fundamentals of Engineering courses (72 students per class) while holding weekly office hours.• Mentoring student assistants in their choice of major pursuit and teaching and managing lab sessions.• Leading lab training in Fundamentals of Engineering courses and completing teaching workshops in collaboration with the Department of Education and the University Center for the Advancement of Teaching.• Attending the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) conferences and networking with many engineering educators across the nation.

During my Ph.D. studies, I worked at the Risk Assessment and at the Management of Structural and Infrastructure Lab at Ohio State University. The collaborative interdisciplinary research projects I was involved with focused on control engineering, earthquake engineering, hazard mitigation, and reliability engineering.My contributions were as follows:• Developing controlled frameworks and published journals and conference papers• Conducting shaking-tables tests of multi-span bridges to evaluate the computational work in control engineering.• Enhancing existing control methods and mastery level designs by developing new probabilistic and nonlinear strategies applicable to infrastructural systems such as tall buildings and multi-span bridges.• Volunteering in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geodetic Engineering as a member of the graduate student panel and a tour guide for prospective students.• Attending conferences, forums, and workshops to showcase knowledge research, networked with peers, and learned about the latest research methodologies.• Delivering poster and long presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposiums.

My position at DG Jones as a quantity surveyor and structural engineer included the following:• Employing AutoCAD extensively to calculate costs of construction projects and to maintain reports for project pricing.• Participating in structural and construction engineering projects.• Preparing progress reports of civil engineering design and pricing.• Attending technical trainings and professional development workshops.
