Conservation Technician
CurrentMember of the Field Conservation team at the National Aquarium, leading in the implementation of large-scale habitat restoration projects in the Chesapeake region to improve conditions for wildlife and humans. • Lead maintenance, cleanup and educational days at Fort McHenry Wetland area with MCC, CCCC, Aquarium staff and volunteers: clearing trails, reorganizing sheds and greenhouses, removed and replaced damaged bridge, and bucking and removing storm debris with chainsaws. Weekly events and programming, including Paddle Project, Bird Club bird walks and AquaPartners, require a neat and safe area.• Helped lead Atlantic White Cedar swamp restoration at Nassawango Creek Preserve in March 2023 and 2024: planting 4500+ Atlantic white cedar trees and engaging 100+ volunteers yearly• Dune restoration at NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex with Department of Navy in May 2023, May 2024 and September 2024: lead 200 volunteers in planting 30,000 grasses and 1,500 shrubs in naturalized dunes, surveyed then treated 6 acres of invasive Asiatic sand sedge with backpack sprayers• Helped lead the completion of Harbor Wetland: coordinated 70 Aquarium staff for a preparation week including composting, goose fencing, registration and setup; leading 300 community volunteers, VIPs and donors in 6 days of planting 33,000 grasses and 120 shrubs
