Omar Bassal, CFA is the Chief Investment Officer of Shukr Investments, a global public equity manager differentiated in three key ways: (1) top tier performance over 1-year, 3-years and 5-years with (2) significant risk reduction compared to a standard benchmark and (3) dedicated to social impact by helping those in need, protecting the climate and improving access to education. Prior to founding Shukr Investments, Mr. Bassal served as head of asset management at MASIC, one of the largest family offices in the Middle East. There, he oversaw investments in public equities, private equity, real estate and income producing funds that are shariah compliant. He also held senior investment roles in the United States (at SEC-registered investment advisors) and at a number of Middle Eastern investment banks.Mr. Bassal purchased his first shares in a public company in 1994. Since that time, he has constantly sought to excel in the investment management industry by learning and then adopting the best techniques from various disciplines. Mr. Bassal holds an MBA with honors in finance, management, and statistics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Economics, also from the Wharton School. He has appeared on Real Vision television and contributed articles to Barron’s and other financial media. Mr. Bassal is the author of “Swing Trading for Dummies."
