I served as the editorial team leader at the Fort Saskatchewan Record, a weekly paper published by Postmedia Network. My responsibilities included editing copy, laying out the paper, managing our website and social media and contributing reporting and opinion writing.

Omar Mosleh was employed as a reporter and photojournalist for La Nouvelle Beaumont News, a community newspaper owned by Sun Media. His duties included reporting, photography, sourcing stories, production and updating the website.

As editor of the Meadow Lake Progress, I served as the editorial team leader. My responsibilities included editing copy, sourcing stories, working with reporters to improve their work, laying out the paper, updating our website and setting the general editorial direction of the paper. I also served as the voice of the Progress at community events and managed our Twitter and Facebook feeds. And I never stopped reporting — I contributed columns, editorials, news, features as well as photography.

As a freelance writer I have written for publications such as Downhome Magazine, the Greater Toronto Hockey League's in-house publication Breakout, the Vaughan Citizen, the Thornhill Liberal and the York-West Advocate.

I completed a full-time, unpaid internship at the Vaughan Citizen. The placement allowed me to practise a diverse range of media skills, from writing to photography, copy editing and design. I was also given the opportunity to develop my voice as a writer by writing columns and editorials.

As campus editor I was responsible for producing a bi-weekly news page relevant to student issues and interests. In addition to correcting grammar, spelling, style and punctuation, I communicated with student reporters to generate ideas and improve copy, and assigned them to cover campus events. I also designed news pages and sourced stories and photos for publication.

As part of my journalism program at Centennial College I wrote for the East York Observer, a community paper published by the college. I quickly learned that skills such as reliability and consistency are just as important as writing well and shooting good photos. I gained experience working under tight deadlines in high-pressure environments and drastically improved my writing and photography skills.
